Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday January 27. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

A YELLOW-BILLED LOON and an ARCTIC LOON are now being seen on Tillamook
Bay. Another YELLOW-BILLED LOON was seen January 20 on the Siuslaw River at
Florence. On January 23 a CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR was heard among a flock
of LAPLAND LONGSPURS along Clatsop Beach. On January 22 a female RUSTY
BLACKBIRD was photographed near Joseph.

TREE SWALLOWS were seen during the week at cape Blanco, Baskett Slough NWR
and at Steigerwald Lake NWR near Washougal. BARN SWALLOWS were at Cape
Blanco, Yaquina Bay and Fern Ridge Reservoir. Flocks of WHITE-FRONTED GEESE
were reported in many areas.

On January 24 four TURKEY VULTURES were in the Coquille Valley. On the North
Spit of Coos Bay January 20 were 1500 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 400 WESTERN
SANDPIPERS, and 60 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS.

Among the large number of GREATER and LESSER SCAUP on the Columbia River
near the Portland Airport during the week were a LONG-TAILED DUCK and one or
both TUFTED DUCKS. A LONG-TAILED DUCK was in Longview January 23. The ACORN
WOODPECKER continues to be seen in Portland?s Delta Park. Three BARROW?S
GOLDENEYE were on the Willamette River in downtown Portland January 19. On
January 22 a GLAUCOUS GULL was at Westmoreland Park in Portland. A
dark-backed LESSER GOLDFINCH was in Beaverton January 24.

Up to 45 TRUMPETER SWANS are now being seen in the Airlie area south of
Monmouth. A SAY?S PHOEBE was seen January 24 along Smithfield Road north of
Baskett Slough NWR. A GYRFALCON was seen January 23 near Tangent.
