Hello, Scott, fellow CBCers and Tweeters,




It has been another unusual climate and weather year. My speculation: there were several early sightings of groundhogs- unusually early emergence- resulting in early, good-natured story telling- during the Okanogan County CBC. You thought this species was not local? Well, that in itself is recordable. Barred owls were not around a few decades ago which -by the way, will probably affect the remaining groundhog populations. Where will our best story telling and beginning of Spring predictions be then?

I'll save Matt Bartels an email message and respond to why Horned Puffin, Blue-footed Booby and others are on the "potential list for Okanogan County" in Matt's county project. All county compilers are given the same list (its the State list) so that when Matt adds the lists together it makes his job of copying the lists together for compilation much easier. So those species are on the State list, but not on the Okanogan County list as you mentioned. Heather as you mention, you never know on some of the birds. Inland lakes have been known to turn up some wacky stuff before so none of them is impossible.
