Subject: [Tweeters] Sandpipers at the Fill

I just returned (5:00 P.M.) from a quick visit to
the Montlake Fill. I was greeted by a Cooper's
Hawk as I left the parking area at Urban Hort -
great start. Mostly however the area was pretty
dead in the heat of the day. Many Common
Yellowthroats singing from almost everywhere and a
good number of Cedar Waxwings scattered about.
The highlight for me today though was the three
sandpipers in the mud at the Southwest Corner of
the Main Pond. Sadly I did not have my camera as
they were very cooperative in excellent light and
were showing a lot of color. I am certain that
two were Western Sandpipers and believe the third
was a Least Sandpiper as it was smaller, less
brightly colored and had yellow green as opposed
to black (dark) legs. These are the first
sandpipers I have seen there in a long while - now
that it finally feels like Summer (and is) I guess
it is time for the Fall migration.
