Subject: [Tweeters] off-topic rfi: polyphemus moth/silk moths in western wa

Sorry for the off-topic question (does it count that the polyphemus moth is
a food source for birds?); I am searching for information on northwest silk
moths, in particular, the polyphemus. Does anybody in tweeterland know of a
local source of information on these moths? My initial web search turned up
very little information on western washington populations.

I found a beautiful male polyphemus hanging out on my window screen over the
July 4th weekend, where he stayed for several days, finally taking off in
the wee hours this morning. The only other polyphemus visitor I've seen was
another male on my porch a few years ago. Common denominators for both
sightings included the presence of artificial light and flowering
honeysuckle vine in the immediate vicinity. Since these adult moths don't
have mouth parts, I assume they were attracted primarily by the light
source.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
