Subject: [Tweeters] Spotted/common sandpiper

In early June at the Freestone Inn pond (near Mazama WA) we usually
see a pair of spotted sandpipers. This year, just one of the pair
was a spotted sandpiper, and its partner looked nothing like a
spotted sandpiper. Our sources showed a sister species, the common
sandpiper, which is uncommon but can hybridize with the spotted
sandpiper. Could that have been the bird we saw? Anyone else
seen such a couple?
