.........There were 35-40 White Pelicans today on several lakes in the Rest Lake areas of Ridgefield Nat'l Wildlife Refuge ...SW. Wash. Similar numbers being reported since Saturday, and.....lesser numbers reported last week. Most strange to see so many White Pelicans at once in an area where they are *rarely *seen at all, except for an occasional stray seen once for a short period once every 3 yrs. or so.
.........Are they migrating?? If so, why so early and so far away from their usual travel path east of the Cascades??? I believe someone reported a group of Swans traveling overhead near Seattle , unusual --- I think they are usually still up in the Artic raising their families this time of the year.
.........Anyone want to venture some answers here? "Global warming" has been suggested but the "cause-and-effect"relationship on this one could raise more questions than answers!!!
