On Saturday, Sherry and I hiked along the creek in Umtanum Canyon. This green belt in the middle of Yakima Canyon was quite birdy.
We saw 27 species of birds, at least 9 speices of butterflies, 1 Yellow-bellied Marmot, and 3 species of snakes, in which we had 2 rattlesnakes next to the trail. It was cool to see one of the larger snakes rattle its tail, warning us not to step on them. They don't seem to be in any hurry to move along either.

Northern Harrier 2 (1 male chattering like he was protecting a nest site in the area )
Cooper's Hawk 1
Swainson's Hawk 1
Red-tailed Hawk 4 ( 2 parents with 2 chicks on the cliff )
Golden Eagle 3
American Kestrel 4
Common Nighthawk 1
Rufous Hummingbird 3
Belted Kingfisher 1
Lewis's Woodpecker 1
Western Wood-Pewee 7
Warbling Vireo 2
Rock Wren 2
Bewick's Wren 1
House Wren 3
Yellow-breasted Chat 12 ( These guys were all over the place singing. We saw 1 doing a display flight )
Black-headed Grosbeak 3
Lazuli Bunting 20 ( Lots of juveniles out )
