Spent the weekend at the family property at Lake Keechelus this weekend and though I'd mention that there is a breeding plumage Common Loon hanging around at the mouth of Roaring Creek. With the lake being so high so late this year, the Spotted Sandpipers have taken to nesting on the John Wayne trail. At Roaring Creek, the Dippers are feeding two young (who are quite noisy) and the Swainson's Thrushes have finally made it up there (this is the latest I have had to wait for them). The Hermit and Varied Thrushes remain as well. Common Nighthawks were seen nightly along with the bats and the Vaux's Swifts hung around both days throughout. One odd movement that I observed- Several groups of Caspian Terns flying West over the lake in groups of 3-7. All three groups passed over within 10 minutes of each other and were moving quickly. I haven't seen or heard them at the lake for several years. Amy SchillingerRenton WAschillingera at hotmail.com
