Hi Tweeters,

The post about owls and Sinlahekin prompted me to post.? Sinlahekin road hasn't been a through road for a few years due to a washout that was never repaired.? I traveled it from Conconully to where you can detour out on Fish Lake Road in mid June.? I saw a really strange thing where Fish Lake Road rises and overlooks the lake. ? In a tree overlooking one of the lakes was two raptor carcasses.? One was mostly just bones but had very impressive talons, (I could not see the skull). ? The other was an owl but it was facing away from me.? My guess is based on the smooth roundness of the back of the head that it was probably a Barred Owl, or even a Great Gray, less likely but never know.? They did not look locked together in a death battle but then something had been feeding on one of the carcasses and could have separated them.
