After reading Dave Hayden?s post earlier I decided I would spend a couple days on the east side in the sunshine. As usual the first day was mostly cloudy and wet but by the time I got to Umtanum canyon trailhead on Tuesday it was drying out. I hiked a ways but it was pretty un-birdy that time of day. I stayed in a campsite and was out early on Wednesday morning. What a treat! THE SUN CAME UP. and the birds came out. Some of them not clear out where I could get photos but enough to keep busy listening to and trying to locate, especially the chat.
One real highlight was seeing three juvenile Cooper?s Hawks in the same bush and later counting at least 5 in bushes and trees at one time. Would these be from one clutch?
I have put what photos I could muster on pbase: http://www.pbase.com/jvhigbee/c_current
