I have on several occasions over the past 20 years donated dead birds and small critters to the Burke. I second the suggestion to call ahead, and then they will tell you where they would like you to deliver the donation to and have someone at the door to receive it. In my experience, it is usually at the back door, not going in thru the front or the cafe.



In one case it was a Townsend's Warbler that I found in our driveway, and it happened that someone was doing a study on them and was quite happy to receive it, and even took me in and showed me some of the collection. A biologist acquaintance showed me how to make a narrow paper cone in which to gently put a small bird beak-first, fold over the opening, and tape shut, before putting into a baggie, to help protect the bird.
