To the woman and young man who looked through our scope on the Recreation
Road trail in Vantage yesterday morning (22nd), the bird was a juvenile
Lazuli Bunting, not the female. Sorry I didn't get that figured out before
we went our separate ways.

We did not see the reported Loggerhead Shrikes yesterday, but it was a
beautiful 75-80 degree day with serenades from the many Lazuli Buntings (not
present last week), Rock Wrens, Ca. Quail, and Lark Sparrows. We saw the
Black Throated Sparrow at Recreation Road trail head on July 14, but did not
see it yesterday. At least 30 White Pelicans were on the river, for those in
need of a White Pelican fix, and one Forster's Tern among the many Caspians.
There is a very active family of Western Kingbirds at the Interpretive
Center picnic area. We have made three visits to this area in three weeks.
Very interesting birding project. In weeks past we had larger numbers of
species than yesterday, and yesterday we did not see the young Prairie
Falcons that have been present.
