Someone already emailed me and pointed out that it is probably just a female
Hooded Merganser. I didn't realize that the female had such a white belly.

I photographed an interesting duck at Nisqually NWR on 6/28. I sent it to a
friend to ID but he must be out of state. It looks like a juvenile Hooded
Merganser but the eye and leg color don't match Sibley. Is it a Hooded
Merganser x Bufflehead hybrid? The link is here:
