Tweeters,

Yesterday loud cawing filled our neighborhood all day long. At one point a group of crows landed in our lawn. "Central Crow" had a slightly injured wing, but could still fly, and he/she was closely surrounded by a half dozen others, constantly cawing at it.

This morning the group was back, only now they were also pecking at CC and causing damage. We shoo'd them away, not wanted to see or hear any more.

I have heard of crows protecting their own, but is it common for them to attack their own? I have to wonder why they would waste 2 days tormenting a fellow-crow rather than using that time to feed, play, and harass other species.
