The past few weeks I have noticed crows regularly perching in the raptor tree,
the name I have given to the tallest tree on the fish hatchery grounds in
Edmonds.? I assumed that the crows had built a nest there. ??My suspicions were
confirmed Saturday (6/11) when I photographed an eagle (probably one of the Pt.
Edwards pair)?raiding the crows' nest.?


I took photos?with?the 400mm end of my honkin' medium sized?100-400 Canon zoom
from the?main viewing platform of the marsh looking southeast across the marsh
to the fish hatchery grounds.? I estimate the distance to be at least 600 yards
as the crows and eagles fly.? After heavy cropping and?adjusting with Picasa,?I
could tell?that the eagle did get one of the crow hatchlings.? ?The eagle's raid
on the nest prompted massive retaliation and pursuit by many crows in the area,
once again demonstrating the close social structure of crows.
