Tweets. I've move to Portland after 2 years in Oakland. I live in a fantastic birding neighborhood with huge cemeteries and plots of forest almost surround my home. This evening at around 7:05 I heard an unusual bird outside and decided to investigate. Just down the street where Palatine Hill Road makes a sharp turn from North to East to South (toward Lewis and Clark College) there was a male Rose Breasted Grosbeak singing loudly at the top of of a fir near the mausaleum for the Riverview Cemetary (there are 5 cemeteries on the hill). This is near 0201 SW Palatine Hill Road Portland, OR 97219. A little west of the Riverview Cemetary where it intersects the Greenwood Hill cemetary there is a hilareous animated nest full of downy woodpecker chicks in a maple about 20 feet up who should fledge this week. You hear them long before you see them. I have had Merlins, Peregrines, Band Tailed Pigeons and big flocks of Evening Grosbeaks a couple of weeks back.

I'm enjoying Portland and learning the places. I'll have to join OBOL soon!

Rob
