Subject: [Tweeters] Common Nighthawk, East Vancouver, June 14 2011

Hi Tweets

I knew this bird well from the 1950's, when I was a kid in Southern Ontario.

Since the 1970`s,when they commonly nested on downtown Vancouver BC rooftops
as the last (week 1 June) migrant, and then got evicted from gravel rooftops
by Glaucous-winged Gulls nesting there earlier in the great GW Gull
population explosion after the enlargement of the Vancouver Landfill in the
early 1970's, we do not hear Common Nighthawks much over Vancouver BC
anymore, so a calling bird tonight over East Vancouver, specifically the
Hastings Street Viaduct, was a rare, nostalgic treat.

A call-note from an old, long-absent friend.
