Hi everyone,



Interesting that Olive-sided Flycatcher (OSFL) ?came up today.? I heard and then saw my first one of the season this morning while hiking in the Paradise Valley Conservation Area near Maltby.? It was not asking for alcoholic beverages but was frequently doing its PIK-PIK-PIK call and was, as usual, flycatching from the tallest and most open snag in the area.? For what it's worth, m y data shows first dates in King County for OSFL of May 5, May 4, May 11 and May 21 in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, respectively.? I did not have any recorded in 2010 .?

I usually hear and see OS flycatchers during spring migration through my area north of Spokane in mid-May.? This year, I saw one and heard others for the first time on June 5 and still heard one a couple of days ago.? They brood in the more alpine areas of our region that are still seeing falling snow.? When I heard one a couple of days ago, I wondered if the weather conditions could push brooding lower this year.

Another alpine brooder in our region that seems late is the Townsend's warbler.

I have OS Flycatchers every year in the creek next to the house.? They have always shown up sometime in the 20's of May.? Today I heard the first one this is extremely late and I was wondering if I was going to have any this year.
