I wish I could give good advice for finding Mountain Quail but I can't.
Hermit Warblers should be fairly easy to find if you go up close to the top
of Capitol Peak and Larch Mountain in the Capitol Forest. I believe the road
from the Rock Candy Mountain entrance off of State Route 8 has been
repaired. You should probably get the latest Capitol Forest road map from
DNR. If you can't go up via Rock Candy entrance, you'll want to get off of
US 101 at the Black Lake exit (West Olympia) and head south to Delphi Road.
Take Waddell Creek Road and you'll get to the C line which takes you right
on up to a Hermit Warbler hot spot near a major intersection of forest
roads.

Hey Tweets -

I'll be traveling from my home near Grand Coulee to Westport for the July 9
pelagic trip with Westport Seabirds.

Does anyone have suggestions on places to find Hermit Warbler or Mountain
Quail on the way? I'll have 4 days to get there, so my route is flexible.
I'm driving a 4 WD pickup, so bad roads are no problem.


Also, this may be a dumb request, but looking at past reports, Marbled
Murrelet may not be a slam-dunk on the pelagic trip at this time of year.
Any insurance suggestions for that bird would be very much appreciated.
