Tweeters and Portland Area Birders,

At 6:40 this morning, there was a singing RED-EYED VIREO in the row of trees
75 yards beyond my back deck in my Battle Ground, Clark County yard. Ann
Nightingale first heard it and it was still singing when I came out. She
had one last week in her yard north of Victoria, BC which was also very
unusual. This is only the second one I've had for the yard - last year's
was on July 7. As with other birds that have appeared in that strip of
woods, it didn't stick around.

We then went to Larch Mountain to see Hermit Warblers which were very easy
to find. In the process, We heard 2-3 RED CROSSBILLs fly overhead. Ann and
I both recognized them immediately although I was surprised to hear them
given how rare they've been in the area this year. This was just beyond the
spot where Randy Hill and I had the booming and drumming Sooty and Ruffed
Grouse two weeks ago.

Keep your ears and eyes skyward!
