Sure enough, the Black-throated Sparrow was still at Recreation Road,just north of Vantage on Saturday at 2:00 PM. Thanks again to all the kind, patient people who explained that Recreation Road is north of Vantage, not south.

The trip down to Vantage from Electric City and back was fun - fifty-two other species without working too hard.

Mostly they were the usual east side suspects, but Million Dollar Mile (Highway 155, milepost 8, on the east shore of Banks Lake) had a weird one. Usually Million Dollar Mile is my stop for Violet-green Swallow, White-throated Swift, and Peregrine Falcon.

I'd stopped at the sagebrush flat at the foot of the hill to look for the Brewer's Sparrows I'd seen the week before. No Brewers this time, but gliding along about 20 yards out from shore was a Common Loon in full breeding plumage. Kind of an odd bird to write down between Red-winged Blackbird and Song Sparrow at the end of June.
