I talked with the refuge biologist today. Apparently the bird was first seen on June 10th. Perhaps a sub adult or non breeding female by the look of it. The bird impressed me as tall (long-legged), lean, and rather long-billed with a very short wing extension to or very slightly beyond tail tip. The wings show sings of wear however, at least in the coverts. The extent of white from the supercillium through the sides of the breast gave me pause. Viewed straight on, the extent of black (flecked with white) through the breast was very narrow giving the impression of very wide white margins (a feature usually associated with American GP). Still, everything else is good for Pacific including extensive white from undertail to the base of the legs. I'm thinking female, but if sub adult in partial breeding who knows?
