Hi everyone,

A couple days ago, two Pileated Woodpeckers flew into the yard.? This was the first time I can remember that we had two in the yard simultaneously.? The periodic visits we have gotten were mostly a single male, a female on a few occasions.? As soon as the bins went on these birds, it became apparent that the second bird was a young one, with a still-fuzzy head which was a subdued rust color compared to the adult.? The adult began feeding the young bird and this continued for a few minutes until they both flew off.? I got a couple quick shots, the first of which is at - http://www.tubbsphoto.com/-/tubbsphoto/detail.asp?LID=&photoID=11915887&cat=38983 .? The light level was relatively low and the head motions during feeding are quite rapid, so it's not sharp, but shows the key features.? If you click next after the linked image, there is a shot showing a pretty good comparison of the adult and baby.?
