Hello Tweeters,

On February 28 around 5 PM in Anacortes, on the Tommy Thompson trail
just south of 34th Street, a gathering of six Song Sparrows caught my
attention. Song Sparrows don't usually flock like that. In among them
was a Lincoln's Sparrow. I see a Lincoln's so seldom, it was a real
treat to see this uncommon, lovely bird and have a good chance to
compare it with the Song Sparrows.

I had the impression these birds may be settled in there for a spell, in
the scrub along the chain link fence that surrounds the mill cleanup
site east of the trail. (Generally a sparrowy area all year 'round.) So
if you've gone a while without a Lincoln's sighting, or are hoping for
your first, this might be a good opportunity. If you go, check out the
bald eagle nest up in the trees to the southwest; the eagles are
refurbishing for spring. It's a great time for wintering waterfowl in
Fidalgo Bay, too.
