At a couple of houses across the street from the field house in Des Moines, 4 Pugetensis White-crowned Sparrows were singing away and madly foraging this morning. Bright yellow bills. All were adults.
The first couple of "see me, pretty pretty me" songs sounded kind of ragged. But then they tuned up their song, and sounded much more like the Pugetensis race of White Crowns. The first of many this spring I'm sure.
