Subject: [Tweeters] WOS Meeting Monday March 7th Frances Wood and Pigeon
Date: Mar 4 13:20:37 2011
From: Rose, Penny - Penny.Rose at seattle.gov

Please join us this Monday evening at 7:00pm at the Center for Urban Horticulture for a Washington Ornithological Society presentation on Pigeon Guillemots.
Ten years ago, Frances Wood began watching the Pigeon Guillemots that raise their young on the bluffs around Whidbey Island. Her study has grown to include 40 volunteers and a paid intern, monitoring 1,000 birds in 25 colonies. Supported by Whidbey Audubon and the Island County Marine Resources Committee, the study tracks population counts, the types of fish delivered to the young in the burrows, and fledging success.

Frances Wood is the author of Brushed by Feathers: A Year of Birdwatching in the West, and a writer for BirdNote, a two-minute radio program about birds. She is a past president of Whidbey Audubon Society and serves on the Marine Resources Committee of Island County.
