The neighborhood temperature was 30 degrees when I left for the
Edmonds waterfront around 8 a.m. There was no breeze and the water
surface on the Sound was still. Visibility was good. You could scope
to Point No Point with very little distortion. However, there weren't
many birds flying. The lone Sanderling has been hanging around the
marina breakwater for about a week. One of the two Rhinoceros Auklets
today was inside the marina and seen from the public pier walkway.
The pack of Pac Loons was north of the underwater park (north of the
ferry dock), as were the Black Scoters.

At the marsh, one of the Great Blue Herons was perched in a nest of
the abandoned heronry. That's worth keeping an eye on. One of the
Yellow-rumped Warblers was a Myrtle. Of the several juncos seen along
the Point Edwards path, one was a male Slate-colored intergrade, what
Sibley calls a Canadian Rocky Mountains intergrade. Red-winged
Blackbirds were dueling by song in the cattails at both ends of the
Point Edwards pond. No sign yet of swallows or White-crowned
pugetensis. We saw 43 species. The temperature was moving closer to
50 degrees by the time we left. It felt like it was time to do some
yard work!
