I'm enjoying the avian poetry & couldn't resist adding one.

Statue
by Helen Heavirland

Statue stands at river's edge--
Memorial of yesteryear
And land unspoiled--'fore houses stood
In rows and barking dogs ran here.

Memory sees Canadian geese,
A regal pair, corral their young.
Gasps and admires shy wood duck,
Color blazing in the sun.

Hears music whistling through
Swift wing of common goldeneye.
Sees osprey hover, dive, and rise.
With dangling fish, toward young he flies.

Watches eagle feed at shore
On fish too large to carry.
I loved this wild, unspoiled spot--
I often chose to tarry.

Progress encroached. Part of me died
Midst noise and population.
Heron statue hints of prior joy--
Was that just an illusion?

Rigid blue gray statue of
The shyest of my friends
Speared a fish split second, tossed,
Gulped, and at attention stands.

My Enemy, My Brother -- a true story.
by Helen Heavirland

Georg Grellmann grew up to participate in the horrors of the Russian
frontline in World War II. How did he survive the aftermath and become
a man at peace? With candor and humor, My Enemy, My Brother takes the
reader beyond politics, to the heart of a young man. Out of this true
story of great tragedy and triumph is born hope for every reader.
