Several years back I watched a Merlin kill and carry off a pigeon!? Still hard to believe, but he/she did!?

Tweets,
?
I was walking back to my home from the nearby grocery store (HT Market, on Aurora at 100th) yesterday at about 5:30 when I flushed a bird up from the ivy behind the building. On inspection, I determined it to be a Sharp-Shinned Hawk, and rather small even for that; probably a male. I didn?t want to discourage him from finishing his meal, but I was curious as to what it WAS, so from about twenty feet I examined the carcase and discovered it was a pigeon. I was astonished! I didn?t think a Sharpie could handle a pigeon, let alone a rather small one, but apparently, it can!
?
Good for the Sharpie, and unfortunate for the pigeon, but it?s hard for me to feel bad for the pigeon. Nice to see our local raptors getting mad skillz.
