Tweets - this afternoon, myself, Brian Bell, Matt Bartels, and Sharon
Aagaard headed down to Klickitat county in advance of my field trip there
this weekend. Along the way we stopped for a few birds.

In between Centralia an Chehelis, we saw a large number of gulls just west
of I-5 and went back to check them out. Amongst them was a juvenile
GLAUCOUS GULL, sparkling amid the Glaucous-winged, HERRING (a couple noted),
California, Ring-billed, Mew (1 noted) and Western (1 noted) Gulls. We only
scoped one small section of probably at least 1000 gulls.

We then bombed down to Skamania County, where we were unable to find some of
the "common" birds I need for that county.

But at Skamania Landing, looking east from the east bridge there, Sharon
found us two SAY'S PHOEBES flitting around the pond edge. Say's are very
rare in Skamania according to the Washington Birder charts.

Then, at the Bonneville Dam, there was a dark-mantled WESTERN GULL, another
species that Washington Birder lists as less than annual for the county.

A sudden, prolonged torrent of rain cut short further birding. We're hoping
for better weather tomorrow :)
