Hello Tweeters,
Went on a great WOS field trip today led by Joe Meche. We got lucky on the rain, dodged it most of the day, windy though. We started at Marine Park in Blaine. The pier had great views of birds. We had hundreds of loons. Mostly Pacific Loons with Common Loons mixed in. There were rafts of 200 + loons. The thing I like about the pier is that the birds are so close. Mixed in were Goldeneyes, Greater Scaup, and Red-necked Grebes. We also had some good looks at Long-tailed Ducks. We went around to Semiahmoo and found a place to get out of the wind. Several hundred more loons were seen along with Surf and White-winged Scotors. A nice Peregrine Falcon was hanging out on the water tower. A stop at the county park added Black Scotors, Black Oystercatchers and Harlequin Ducks. We went south to Birch Bay where we saw quite a few Brant. We had a nice mix of water birds through out the day. The group of people on the trip, as usual, was friendly and enthusiastic.
Joe is leading another trip for WOS to this area on April 2. The sight of all the loons is worth the trip.

Next weekend on March 19, the Wings Over Water festival is going on in Blaine. This would be a good time to check out the birds in Drayton Harbor. They have a great schedule of events. Check out their web site:
