I am sufficiently chastised. I shouldn't have used the abbreviation SEOW for Short-eared Owl. Because of a substantial number of mildly negative emails from inquisitive birders, I will never ever do that again unless I identify it first in the body of the email. I don't like these abbreviations anyway because I usually can't figure them out even knowing the appropriate convention so I shouldn't have been surprised by the response.
