I have no problem with abbreviations as long as the bird is first fully named at
the beginning of the e-mail.? I have seen the term SORA used quite often and
still don't know what it stands for.

I am sufficiently chastised. I shouldn't have used the abbreviation SEOW for
Short-eared Owl. Because of a substantial number of mildly negative emails from
inquisitive birders, I will never ever do that again unless I identify it first
in the body of the email. I don't like these abbreviations anyway because
I?usually?can't figure them out even knowing the appropriate convention so I
shouldn't have been surprised by the response.?
