Sunday afternoon I made my usual rounds of Edmonds despite the rain, gloom, and
general doom. After failing to find the elusive snipes at the west viewing
platform of the marsh, I proceeded east along the walkway to the eastern viewing
platform.

While I was at the eastern viewing platform, I heard the crying of gulls which
usually signifies the arrival of an eagle. Sure enough, a juvie flew over the
marsh with its accompanying gull-tourage.??? When I?examined my photos at home,
I discovered the juvie was packing an avian lunch.?

As the juvie was passing by, I heard the loud cawing of a mob of angry crows. I
initially thought that they too were chasing the eagle, but turning to my right,
I could see that they were after something about the size of our local
red-tailed hawk, but a much lighter color. Close examination of?my photos showed
it to be a northern harrier, only the second one I have seen at the marsh.?
