Short-eared owls are fairly common nesting birds in the CRP grasslands of Douglas and Lincoln Counties and I suspect other adjacent counties as well including Okanogan and Grant. In work that was done as part of a WDFW study focusing on use of wildlife in CRP lands from 2003-2005, short-eared owls were regularly encountered on study plots and I believe about a dozen nests were found while searching for nests of grassland passerine birds.
