Another nice day on North Seattle Community College Campus. The pond on the baseball is diminishing, but today there were 2 pairs of Northern Shovelers, several Gadwalls, Mallards and American Widgeons. In the area were Red Winged Blackbirds (first time this year for me to see them), crows and starlings. At the regular pond I saw more of the same plus a pair of Buffle Heads and 4 Canada Geese. On the south end of the pond I was chased away first by a couple of Annas Hummingbirds flittering all around me and then by a very noisy Ruby crowned Kinglet. In the woods behind there were Chestnut backed Chickadees and Bushtits. Along the pond I spotted a pair of Purple Finces - the male in brilliant colors. I heard lots of birds, but alas, I am not good identifying by ear. I love the end of the winter!
