A fellow ornithology teacher friend of mine used to refer to the general
"duck" group as the family Duckidae, and in my family it's caught on as a
way to name any duck-shaped bird: a "duckid".



We're thinking of taking a family field trip this weekend to look for
migrant duckids, since the goldeneyes are beginning to show up in some
numbers. Does anyone have a recommendation for good spots for binoc viewing,
west of the Cascades?
