Went on a quick drive East of the Cascades today.
Started nice and sunny with very little wind.
Main Highlight was a couple of Prairie Falcons visible for a long time at
the top of a basalt cliff off of hwy 10, between Cle Elum & Ellensburg. The
female was stationary and vocal most of the time. After copulating, the male
flew in and out of a crack close to the top of the cliff a few times, then
flew along the cliff top for a while before eventually disappearing south
across the Yakima River.
Great Horned Owls were seen sitting on nests in 2 places. Easiest to view is
the one on Reecer Creek Rd in Ellensburg.
A few Red-tailed Hawks were on nests as well.
