Hello,

I would appreciate your comments on a bird spotted in Brady this evening. My first thought was it was a gray jay (perhaps Rocky Mtn. variation), but . . .

The bird was the size of a gray jay and perched on a fence post only about 40 feet from my house. I had it in a scope for several minutes so I was able to observe it closely. It had the short black bill of a gray jay. Above the bill was a small patch of white which met a soft gray color extending to the back with a white patch above the tale. There was no interruption of the gray on the head by black or even a darkening of the gray. A black mask extended through the eye. The breast was very white. The tail feathers had a very small edging of white.

Thank you for your help,
