Hello all,
Just returned home from the Sandhill Crane Festival - Mike led a boat tour on Potholes Res. on Friday - they found a BRANT on Goose Island. Other birds found:
Glaucous Gull - one bird
Snow Geese - 2000
WF Geese - 1500
Red-breasted Merganser - I found one later looking for the Brant which I did not see on Friday - but went back up on Saturday around noon and it was back on Goose Island "grazing" on the grass near the north end. You can scope the island from the pullout on O'Sullivan Dam road. Went back up around 3 with others and could not refind the Brant. Another boat trip went out today - hope they found it again.
The festival went very well as usual - the rain held off for most of the trips. Late spring there so very few migrants in - and the cranes were spread all over but all crane tours saw at least some. Curlews were scattered around but definitely IN.

Later, ML
