Hi all,

I have been birding a few spots near south Tacoma in the past couple weeks due to training for a new job. I wanted to pass a long a couple sightings in case they are hard to find birds in Pierce county.

Wapato Park - right off I-5 at 84th ave. This park has a small lake and hosts a good variety of birds. I walked around for a hour this afternoon and ended with 35 species. Male ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS are very vocal and conspicuous. I used my iPod today to get a VIRGINIA RAIL to respond from the marshy end of the lake. Lots of gulls to sort through too!

Mounts Road - last week, I found two WESTERN SCRUB-JAYs in the brushy area along the first road to the left as you head south from the golf course. Code 4 bird according to Washington Birder.

I will be in and out of this area for the next couple months so I will keep reporting if I find something interesting.

Good birding!
