Subject: [Tweeters] Was it a great horned owl?

Last August, we were camping at a small lake in the Sinlahekin Wildlife
Area, south of Loomis and west of Tonasket/Omak. Because it was the
weekend of the Omak Stampede, no one else was there. Around 4 a.m., we
were awakened by what sounded like one of those beeping horns clowns
use, except on steroids. It was an amazingly loud and a single "beep"
at a moderately low tone was repeated every few seconds for what seemed
like hours, but in fact was probably only 5-10 minutes. It eventually
faded away. We are convinced it must have been an owl, but it wasn't a
"hoo" sound or a screech. The closest we have been able to find online
is a great horned owl "harnk". Can anyone identify what we heard?
Thanks.
