Tweeters,

This is a bit of a micro-location question. Bald Eagles are regular in West
Seattle in the winter and spring, and I expect to see some daily this time
of year. But today was something of a first - eagles in all the "normal"
spots all at the same time. This morning on my way to work I saw a total of
five, while driving from the Lighthouse over to Harbor Avenue. That's a
first for me, and it leads to a question.

I've always assumed that the eagles around Alki Point were the ones that
have a nest over on Harbor Avenue above Salty's Restaurant (three miles by
way of the shoreline). I thought this because over the years I've seen
eagles in one place or the other, but never both at once. After today, I
realize that's not necessarily so. I saw one adult and one immature in the
madrona tree above the lighthouse at the Point; one adult in the big tree at
63rd on Alki (1500' away); and then two more adults at the nest above
Salty's, all in the space of five or six minutes.

So, in my search for order in the universe, my mind's eye suddenly has no
'home' for the Alki eagles. I know there are nests in the West Duwamish
Greenbelt, but that seems a bit far for them considering there's decent
foraging closer than Alki, and it seems as though they'd have to pass by the
Salty's eagles to get to Alki Point. Any ideas on where these western-most
West Seattle eagles might nest?

All thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
