Subject: [Tweeters] Eurasian Collared Doves, Anacortes

Hi Tweeters,

This morning at the breakfast table I caught sight of a pair of pale
gray doves fluttering onto a neighbor's roof. I had time to grab the
binocs and see the black nape lines to ID them before they flew off.
Later, I heard an unfamiliar but dove-y call, followed it down 31st
Street, and refound the pair in a green belt along vacated C Avenue at
31st. My husband, Casey, and I realized that these must be the doves he
had seen at B Avenue and 31st on Saturday while running (no binoculars)
and ID'd as Mourning Doves. So they have been around our neighborhood a
good five days. A life bird for both of us.

As far as I know, this is a first sighting in Anacortes. The vicinity we
have seen them in is 31st and 30th streets in the area of B and C
avenues. These streets both dead end at the edge of the Anacortes
Community Forest Lands (at what would be A Avenue). If you come looking,
please explain your purpose cheerfully and kindly to any neighbors who
may be alarmed by strangers with binoculars.

Good birding,

Kristi Hein
Anacortes
