Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday May 5. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

Very heavy migrations during the week brought BULLOCK?S ORIOLES,
BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS, and WESTERN TANAGERS. The very heavy YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLER migration continues with females now being seen. NASHVILLE WARBLERS
were well reported. The first OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS were also reported.

Along the coast up to 30,000 WESTERN SANDPIPERS passed Boiler Bay May 2.
60,000 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were seen there the next day. The April 30
offshore boat trip out of Coos Bay found three LAYSAN ALBATROSS, 75
BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSS, and 15 PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS.

On May 3, 12 WESTERN KINGBIRDS were just south of Coos Bay. A male TUFTED
DUCK was seen May 2 near Siltcoos Lake. On April 26 a LONG-TAILED JAEGER
flew southward over the beach south of Newport.

There are now two pairs of BLACK PHOEBES nesting at Ridgefield NWR. Twenty
WHITE PELICANS are now being seen on Sauvie Island. One remains at Tualatin.
On April 30 a SWAINSON?S THRUSH and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK were at Tryon
State Park near Lake Oswego. A MOCKINGBIRD was in Albany April 28. A
LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was seen April 29 near the Albany airport. On April 30,
4300 VAUX?S SWIFTS were going into the chimney at Agate Hall in Eugene. An
AVOCET, a MARBLED GODWIT, and a SOLITARY SANDPIPER were at Fern ridge
Reservoir May 3. The first BLACK TERNS were there that day. A HARRIS?S
SPARROW was in Ashland during the week, another was in Fields May 3. On May
1 a MOCKINGBIRD and a GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE were at the Summer Lake Wildlife
Area.
