Subject: [Tweeters] Swans released at Hicks Lake in Lacey
Date: May 5 22:35:21 2011
From: Martha Jordan - swanlady at drizzle.com

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, in partnership with The
Trumpeter Swan Society, released two juvenile trumpeter swans at Hicks Lake
in Lacey on Wednesday May 4th.
Both swans are marked with neck bands with the codes M35 and M36.
The swans are now busy feeding on submerged vegetation at the south end
of the lake. At this time they cannot fly due to their wing being clipped.
Once they molt in late July they will be fully able to fly. Where they end
up and pioneer into is up to them.

Please help us make this release a success. If you see these birds on the
lake let me know where on the lake you saw them. Late this summer when they
fly, we will want to know where they are going.

Next week we will have more information on this experiment on the TTSS
website at www.trumpeterswansociety.org.

Meanwhile, if anyone finds the mute swans still in the Olympia area please
let me know.

Thanks.
