Hi Tweets -
We had a nice day and a half on the San Juan Islands this weekend for
our WOS trip. We spent Saturday on Lopez Island, and Sunday on San
Juan. Some nice shorebirds on Saturday, and smatterings of passerine
migrants -- but not yet the full flush of summer birds. I think last
year's trip, held 10 days earlier, had more migrant activity than did
this one despite the late date.

Lopez Highlights:

Semipalmated Plover - 2 on marsh on Fisherman's Bay Rd., south from
Fisherman Bay - marsh on east side of road -- also had Lesser
Yellowlegs & Cinnamon Teal there.
Whimbrel - one at Spencer Spit [not much else there]
Black-bellied Plover - several along shore at Fisherman's Bay south end.

Golden Eagle - Cousin's Rd.

Sora in several places heard only , including Center Church Marsh,
and later down south --

Peregrine perched on cliff at Watmough Bay. We also watched a hunting
Peregrine over the fields along Port Stanley Rd.

Wilson's Warbler - one in the preserve south of Hummel Lake was our
only 'recent arrival' passerine migrant for the day.

San Juan Highlights:

Pacific-slope Flycatcher - we heard many and saw a couple in the
woody areas on the west side of the island.

Hammond's Flycatcher - one seen, several heard, in English Camp.

Warbling Vireo - one at English Camp, one at San Juan County Park.

Cassin's Vireo - one at English Camp.

Yellow Warbler - several, including one along Valley Farm Rd. and a
couple around Three Meadows.

Townsend's Warbler - a few singing, and great close views of one at
English Camp

Eurasian Collared-Dove - had 2 fly over in Friday Harbor, and then
several at a pretty reliable spot at the corner of Douglas & Bailer
Hill Rd [supposed to be W.Bluebirds there too, but they didn't show].

Western Bluebirds - same corner as the Collared-Doves.

Overall, we had 108 species for the trip, and left many more 'on the
table' due to a group decision to come home early and opt out of many
of stops in southern San Juan.
