Has anyone heard whether Cave Creek Canyon proper, or the SW Research
Station are directly affected? We were down there a little over a week ago
and like Wilson said, it is extremely dry, apparently the 7th straight year
of severe drought.

Quite a contrast to the Mississippi drainage where record flooding is
occurring!

Four of us Vancouver, WA area birders were asleep in the Portal Peak Lodge
when they banged on our doors ordering an immediate evacuation as the flames
topped the ridge right above Portal with strong winds pushing them. Many
people left their luggage and belongings behind as we raced down to Rodeo. I
have made dozens of birding trips down here over the last thirty years and
have never seen it this dry. Wilson Cady
