Subject: [Tweeters] Lewis Co. - Caspian Terns

With a change in plans this morning, I had an itching to get out to Riffe Lake. I went directly out to the east end of the lake, and walked out to the ponds. Nothing going on here. Over to the lake, had a few birds.
COMMON LOON - 2
HORNED GREBE - 3
WESTERN GREBE - 1
Then, flying in from the west, 8 CASPIAN TERNS made their presence known. They flew into the cove by the Taidnapum Park boat launch. Several minutes later, they flew back out, heading west where they had just came from. I made a stop at the lake on my back, but did not see them. So, somewhere on the lake, there are 8 terns.

I stopped along Peters Rd. Here I had
SORA - 1 (calling from the marsh)
BANK SWALLOW - 5 (The swallows have returned for a second year. There could be a small nesting colony somewhere in the area.)
HORNED GREBE - 1
WOOD DUCK - 2

I also checked a couple of clearcuts where I had seen Western Bluebirds last year, but found none. A cooler spring might delay them in coming in. I'll check again later. At the clearcut on FR25, I had 4 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES.
At the Woods Creek parking lot, I had a HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER calling.
