I know it's not Thursday. Kathryn Speirs had a WESTERN KINGBIRD in the park
yesterday afternoon, so I went down this morning to see if it was still
there.

No luck with the kingbird, but a good morning of birding nonetheless. Just
a bit of mist under overcast skies, and not too, too cold. MOSQUITOES were
definitely around, and are destined to be really bad this year, I'm afraid.

Highlights:

Green Heron 2 sightings
Purple Martin ~5 flew over the Rowing Club
HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER 10+ empids; all I could ID were HAFL
CASSIN'S VIREO Two, silent
HERMIT THRUSH At least 5, one calling
SWAINSON'S THRUSH At least 3, calling
Or.-crowned Warbler Ubiquitous, singing
Y.-rumped Warbler 100+, both Audubon's and Myrtles
Yellow Warbler Only about 2 males, singing
Bl.-throated Gray Warbler Male singing near shops
Common Yellowthroat Ubiquitous, singing, only saw 2
Townsend's Warbler 3 in Big Cottonwood Forest, singing
Wilson's Warbler Ubiquitous, singing, only saw 2
Lincoln's Sparrow 1, SE corner of East Meadow
Western Tanager 2 sightings of males

For today, 66 species in 4 hours birding solo. With another set of
eyes/ears, I'm pretty sure I could have hit 70. Hammond's Flycatcher and
Swainson's Thrush were new for the year.
